August 1st 1963 - Hip-hop artist Coolio is born. In 1995 he releases the single "Gangsta's Paradise" which reaches number 1 on the Billboard 100, remaining there for three weeks. He would go on to sell seventeen million albums worldwide.

August 1st 1981 - MTV goes live on cable. From the invention of reality TV to the enabling of Madonna, MTV changes youth culture forever.
